Autumn-my favorite time of the year and such an easy one to write about.

The Bounty

Baskets of nuts and apples
pumpkins in a row
a patch of frost slipped in last night
so white it resembles snow.
Hills draped in color
fields have a golden sheen
the harvest moon is silver
the biggest I've ever seen.
Scarecrows,witches,bats and ghosts
funny false faces we love the most
cute little costumes
worn with pride
witch on a broom taking a ride
honking geese southward bound
means winter will soon be around
lawns with displays of autumns best
red sun sinking in the west
spirals of wood smoke teases my nose
as from a housetop it rises
cosy evenings by the fire
a night of tricks and surprizes.
Could there be a season more beautiful
than one we call fall
or am I just highly prejudice
no!actually I love them all.

Autumn Sunset

Brilliant streaks of color
splashed across the sky
like other autumn sunsets
like other days gone by
threads of gold and silver
mingled with softest blue
sun so red it hurts your eyes
orange of the brightest hue.
As darkness creeps upon it
the colors fade away
the western sky has changed
to the palest shade of gray.
Mother Nature stores her paintbrush
until another days end
when she will mix the colors
and paint it all again.

Sunset

I know this poem doesn't fit autumn, but thought I would just fit it in here as it's a nature poem.

April's Gift

When April rounds the corner
I'll wait for again for you
your song through winter pondered
I'll fix you favorite food
you left me in the winter
I'll wait for your return
before the heat of summer
upon my skin will burn.
Anticipation will control me
as April rolls around
to see you at my window
takes away my winter frown.
A flash of sudden color
faint voice almost unheard
but in my heart I know
it's the return of the Hummingbird.
